    College students implicated as accused in the suicide of Sidharthan J S, a veterinary student, have approached the Kerala High Court seeking bail.

    Sidharthan was a second-year Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry student at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode in Wayanad who allegedly committed suicide on February 18, 2024, because of ragging and brutal assault from the college.

    A crime was registered against eighteen persons under Sections 341, 323, 324, 342, and 306 read with Section 34 of the IPC and Sections 3 and 4 of Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1998.

    Justice P G Ajithkumar posted the matter for hearing on May 07, 2024.

    The CBI had taken over the investigation of the matter pursuant to the orders of the Court.

    The Special Prosecutor for CBI, Senior Advocate Dr K P Satheeshan represented by Advocate Gokul D Sudhakaran submitted before the Court that final report and statements will be submitted before the Court.

    The Counsels appearing on behalf of the petitioners submitted that the investigation was complete and that further custodial interrogation is not required. It is also submitted that the petitioners were in custody for more than 60 days and are entitled to statutory bail.

    The prosecution allegation was that Sidharthan committed suicide since the accused students manhandled him.

    Recently, the Court dismissed the writ petition filed by Dr. M. R. Saseendranath, Vice Chancellor of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Science University, challenging the suspension order issued against him by the Chancellor pending inquiry.
